Laura is excited to get back to working at events

Laura is excited to get back to working at events, but she has used her hospitality experience to adapt during the pandemic.

“I can’t wait to see the Ferris Wheel again at the Easter Show, or to hear the noise of the V8 Supercars coming past our staff check-in area, it’s going to be great!”

Laura’s extensive hospitality experience, dedication and problem-solving skills have always been an asset to the National Workforce team. Over the past couple of months, Laura has shifted focus to support other areas of the business while the hospitality and events industry came to a halt. Laura shares her insights.

What have you been working on during COVID-19?

I have been assisting our Parramatta branch and working on Government and Commercial roles – we recruit for casual, perm and temp clients. We have been really busy during this time and recruiting for multiple roles including hygiene monitors, customer service, data entry, HR assistants and administration opportunities from metro to regional areas across NSW.

What skills are you using to get this work done?

I have started to expand my skills by working in a different style of recruitment, which is, working on permanent and specialised roles. National Workforce uses the same systems and practices across the company to ensure day to day operations can run smoothly and streamlined, even if staff move around internally.

Are you using any skills you weren’t using when working in hospitality?

Before getting into recruitment, I worked in the hospitality industry for over eight years so I would often find myself using industry “lingo” – it’s second nature to me. Lately, I’ve been discovering and learning new terms connected to other industries. This has been a significant highlight now in my career as it’s taught me a lot about recruitment outside of hospitality.

What are you enjoying most about your new tasks?

The exposure to a new area of recruitment has enabled me to upskill. COVID-19 has had an unimaginable impact on the hospitality industry, but I am grateful for the opportunity that National Workforce has given me during this time. Working within a different team, different focus and different style of candidates has been great, and I am enjoying it! The Parramatta team welcomed me with open arms and have helped train and build my confidence within the recruitment industry.

What do you love most about working in hospitality?

Foremost is being part of the Hospo Collective. We spend countless hours working together in the office, and we travel to events, staying in hotel rooms and cabins for a week. We’re like a family. We all have our own individual personalities and strengths, and we all work so well together. We could probably finish each other’s sentences! The work culture at National Workforce is great and being part of the Hospo Collective…. well that’s just something special.

What are you most looking forward to when hospo is up and running again?

Being back at the events – not only does it involve a carpool karaoke on the way to the events but being onsite with the team and our candidates! The atmosphere when we are involved in these world-class events is exceptional! We see firsthand the impact our team can make and what a great success they can be. I can’t wait to see the Ferris Wheel again at the Easter Show, or to hear the noise of the V8 Supercars coming past our staff check-in area, it’s going to be great!
