How to prepare for the future

If you’re finding yourself at home with time to fill, this is a great opportunity to start thinking about what you can do to prepare for the future. There are various ways to stay engaged, motivated and ready for when you re-enter the workforce.

Online learning

There are various courses available online, allowing you to upskill or even change career direction, from the comfort of your home. TAFE is currently offering free online short courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn about digital marketing, administration, business and more.

Find a mentor

Many people are at home looking for things to do. This is a great time to find that mentor. Write a list of people who you are interested in learning more from. It could be someone in a role you would love to be in one day; someone who has a specific skill set such as business development or a trade you’re interested in such as plumbing. Why not send that person an email and ask if they have time for a coffee over FaceTime? It’s a chance to ask questions, learn more about their experiences and skillset, and what you need to do to get to where they are.

Take a break

For some, this time isn’t necessarily about doing more but perhaps doing less. This could be the first time in your life where you have been forced to stop. It can be a great opportunity to recharge and rest. Giving ourselves the space to be, without the pressures of work and other commitments can be reinvigorating.

It could be that you do one, none or all of these! If you’re not sure what the best path to take is, why not reach out to a friend, colleague, manager or family member and talk it out.
