How to get a great headshot

How to get a great headshot

A lot of interactions now happen online, so it’s important to represent yourself the best that you can! Here’s how:

1.    Tick all the boxes

A good headshot will tick several boxes. Firstly, it will be clear. This means that the image will be sharp and in focus. The subject will be facing the camera and look professional. The room will also be well lit. Finally, the background is plain or blurred so that it doesn’t take away from the subject.

2.    Ask someone to take it or go pro

If you have a friend who is handy with a camera, ask them to take the shot. Having someone else take it will also mean that they can direct you and ensure they are getting the best picture that they can. Alternatively, go pro! Paying a photographer can take the stress out, and you can be sure you will end up with high-quality shots.

3.    The don’t do’s

When it comes to taking a headshot there are a few don’ts. Don’t be quirky or out of the box just for the sake of it. Including props, pets or taking the shot in an unusual location isn’t necessary to stand out – unless of course, this is relevant to your career. Avoid wearing patterns that can be distracting. Finally, don’t take a selfie. Selfies are not the same as headshots and don’t look professional.

Having a great headshot means you can use it confidently on your social media platforms. It’s always best to enlist help to make sure you get a great photo that you can use again and again.
