Carina isn't wasting time

Carina is missing working in events and hospitality, but she’s not wasting any time. She is expanding her skillset while she waits for the hospitality industry to get back into full swing.

Before COVID-19, Carina was busy recruiting for the V8 Supercars and other large-scale events. As the hospitality and events industry has slowed, Carina is making the most of learning all she can about other areas of National Workforce. 

What have you been working on during COVID-19? 

I have joined the Industrial team at Wetherill Park. It’s been a great experience to see a different side of what National Workforce does. 

What skills are you using at the moment to get the new work done? 

I am still screening candidates, conducting online interviews, filling orders and confirming rosters. That aspect of the work is still the same. 

Are you using any skills you weren’t using when working in hospitality? 

I am using the same skills but just in a different way. There are variations in the recruitment process. Steps that are required to recruit for an industrial role are not necessary for hospitality, but there are things that are done in hospitality that are not required for industrial. One thing that I have noticed is that in hospitality, you get a chance to plan ahead, whereas in industrial you never know what the day will bring. It’s been really interesting to see the differences. 

What are you enjoying most about your new tasks?

Getting to know our industrial candidates and clients.

What do you love most about working in hospitality?

Events! I love the atmosphere and experience as no two days are the same. It’s a great chance to meet new people and to see our candidates from all around Australia who return year after year to work with our team. 

What are you most looking forward to when hospitality is up and running again?

I am most excited just to see the industry up and running again. I come from a hospitality background so I can understand how much it is being missed right now.
